You might have spent the last few months thinking about laser hair removal, and winter is a good season to get going on this particular kind of grooming. But where did the time go? Are you too late? Summer may be right around the corner, but you don’t have to let the calendar keep you from getting started on your laser treatments now.
You still have some time
Laser hair removal is an effective way to get rid of unwanted hair on your face and body, and it’s actually relatively fast. The treatment consists of a series of sessions where a beam of laser light is sent through the hair shaft into the follicle to destroy the root. This not only causes the hair to fall out, but also inhibits or eliminates future growth.
Results are visible after the first laser treatment, and depend on:
Hair color (darker hair responds best)
Hair texture
Hair Location
Size of treatment area
Age
Skin pigmentation
Pain is… well, that varies
Some of our laser hair removal patients say the treatments are practically painless; others are grateful for our numbing procedures. The pain level can also depend on the area being treated. As the laser device moves across the targeted area, it works by sending laser energy deep into each hair shaft, destroying the hair by its root. This causes a snapping or burning sensation. Depending on your pain tolerance, it can feel like a quick warming feeling or like being snapped hard by a rubber band.
After treatment
You skin will probably feel warm and may be red, with mild swelling. Those effects should completely resolve in a couple of days. Rarely, some people will get tiny blisters that should disappear in a couple of days. You can return to your normal routine immediately following treatment with these exceptions:
Avoid activities that cause sweating for one day
No sun exposure for two days; after that, always wear sunscreen
